Top Essential Things Every Booklover Needs
As booklovers, there are a few things we absolutely require. No matter where we are, a single book is enough to keep us occupied for a few hours.
There are, however, a few items that every avid booklover should have if they are always reading. These book lover accessories are ideal for bookworms at home or on the go, and they also make excellent gifts!
If you're wondering what to get a bookworm, consider these gift ideas for avid readers:
Here are what we consider to be the top five essentials for any book lover:
Journal of Books
It can be difficult to keep track of all the books you read if you read several books per week.
Years later, you'll most likely have forgotten the specifics of the books you've read, so when someone asks you what you thought, you might not be able to provide more than a "good" or "meh" response. This is where book journals come in handy.
After finishing each book, as a booklover, jot down a few lines about what it was about and how you felt about it, along with a star rating if that's your thing. Consider how nice it will be to look back at the end of the year and see all the different stories you've read.
You can purchase a special book journal or simply use any old plain notebook. You could also make your own bullet-journal style notebook if you're particularly creative!
If you don't like writing things down anymore, you can keep track on Goodreads. You can create virtual bookshelves, write reviews, rate them, participate in online discussions, add friends, and much more.
A Massive Mug
When diving into a new novel, every booklover enjoys a cup of tea or coffee by their side. Sorry, we don't. But other bookworms constantly chastise us for not being a big tea or coffee drinker! But that doesn't mean we don't still have a sizable collection of bookish mugs.
If you don't already have a large mug to keep you company while you read, you can get some really cool literary-inspired mugs. Don't settle for something cheap and uninteresting!
LED Book Lights for booklovers
If you want to read at night, which is unavoidable if you're a voracious reader, you'll need a small reading light or torch. It's one of the most useful gadgets for bookworms!
They're inexpensive to purchase, but they can come in handy when you need a little extra light focused on the page. If you're a frequent traveler, these can also come in handy on long bus and plane rides.
Choose one to clip to the bed or the page, whichever is more convenient for you. It's one of the best booklover gadgets!
Booklover’s Lovely Bookmarks
When we are feeling lazy, we will use an old receipt or ticket stub as a bookmark. We are sure we are not the only ones! However, we have a drawer full of beautiful bookmarks made of various materials with various bookish quotes on them, which are a little more special.
Consider leather bookmarks, origami bookmarks, Harry Potter bookmarks, magnetic bookmarks, and other unique bookmarks. The options are limitless for booklovers!
A Tote Bag for Booklovers
We keep a tote bag in the bottom of my rucksack or handbag because you never know when you'll walk past a good bookstore and, you know, buy everything.
This is also important for any booklover looking to live a more sustainable lifestyle because you won't have to rely on plastic bags for random purchases.
There are also a lot of great options from literary brands like Obvious State with classic quotes. Some are lovely, while others are witty (We Kant Even!).
There are also some Harry Potter tote bags with quotes such as "I'd rather be at Hogwarts." There are a plethora of them available online.
Booklover’s shelves that are good
You'll have more books than you know what to do with if you're anything like us, or most booklovers! They appear to be infiltrating every nook and cranny of my home. They always fill up far too quickly, no matter how many shelves I put up for them.
So, for the time being, we will just have to keep buying strong and sturdy shelves. But don't buy the cheap, flimsy ones. If you stack too many hardbacks on top of them, they will easily break!
Ikea Billy bookcases are widely regarded as some of the best low-cost bookshelves available. They have a large selection of tall, short, wide, and thin bookcases that can be combined to form a large or small library. I have four different types of Billy bookcases in my home, including six in my bedroom!
A Kindle Carrying Case
Kindles are not cheap. They're great because you can fit so many novels into one small package, but if it breaks, you're in a bind. Fortunately, they are quite resilient these days, and they do not give up easily.
They don't, however, have the advantage of ordinary books, which can be read no matter how many times they are dropped on the ground or in water!
If you, of course as a booklover intend to take your Kindle with you and on your travels, we recommend investing in a good case. You won't be sorry the next time your Kindle slips from your grasp and lands on the floor.
A Booklover’s Book Stamp
A book stamp is probably not what you expected to see on this list, but it's a fantastic gift idea for the booklover in your life. If you're a voracious reader, it's likely that your friends are constantly asking for your recommendations and borrowing your books.
In that case, you'll want to make certain that all of those books eventually find their way back to you. We are constantly losing track of who we have loaned which books to!
Getting a book stamp is a simple way to ensure that you know which books are yours. This is a personalized book stamp with your name and a phrase such as "This book belongs to Laura's library" on it.
For two reasons, this is one of the best book accessories for booklovers. To begin with, it's a lot of fun to stamp all of your books with this. This is something that well-known bookshops do with every purchase, and it's a really nice touch. Second, with your name imprinted on the front, your booklover friend will never forget who to return the book to when they're finished!
Book Darts for Booklovers
One of the best book reading accessories for bookworms is a set of book darts. They're a new discovery for us, and we are not sure how we have made it this far in our book loving life without them. We are the type of people who despise dog-eared pages and collects pristine books. We despise the idea of bending the spine or writing in and highlighting books unless they are for study.
When we come across a quote that we particularly like, we usually take a photo of it on my phone, where it will live in perpetuity, a screenshot that will never be seen again.
That's where Scurry Home & Paper's book darts come in. They are lovely metal markers that slide easily onto the page, drawing attention to your favorite passages. Because they are shaped like darts, it is easy to see which quotes you intended to select.
We were concerned that they would rip the page because they are made of metal, but they not only slide on and off smoothly, but they also don't fall out when you shake your book!
It's a one-of-a-kind bookish gift that's ideal for booklovers. They've even made the cover of Red Magazine!
A Booklover’s Book Jacket
Book sleeves are one of the most essential items for any booklover. They're all the rage on Instagram right now, thanks to Benita from Book Beau, who started the trend. We now have four book sleeves from various brands, and we don't know what we would do without them as booklovers! This is one of the most important things that booklovers require in our opinion.
It's essentially a cover for your book to protect it from being knocked or bent while in your bag on the go. We are not sure why these weren't invented years ago because we are those people who despise even bending the spine of a book.
Somewhere Comfy to Read for Booklovers
We all need to be comfortable when we sit down to read a book. We are fortunate to have a cozy reading nook in our bedroom, but yours could be as simple as a pile of cushions in a quiet corner of the house or your bed.
Nothing is more annoying than feeling uneasy and restless while trying to read. Concentration becomes impossible!
Collect fluffy cushions, woollen throws, and soft lighting – whatever you need to feel comfortable and relaxed. Then close your eyes and curl up with a good book.
Consider getting a hammock or swinging bench for your garden so you can read outside during the summer!
