Description of the book - Some Of Skippys Blues

Set in a thinly-disguised Thunder Bay, Some of Skippy's Blues is the story of friendships that form, dissolve, and come together again, but with an inevitably different shape to them. Friendship is important to him because he's a lonely, shy kind of kid; the polio epidemic of the mid-fifties left him with a limp that isolates him from others his own age. His first friend is Benny Carter, newly arrived from Memphis, Tennessee. The two youngsters share a taste in music; together they plan a road trip for the September after they finish high school They'll go to New York as a tribute to the Beat poets, they'll go to New Orleans for the jazz, and to Mexico for the beaches, and they'll end up in San Francisco where they'll end up rich and famous as writers and publishers. It's a beautiful dream, but when the plans fall through, Skippy is devastated. Without Benny, he must reinvent his life. Once something is broken, he learns, it can be fixed, but it can never be the same again. Something new, however, can come out of the wreckage.
